Body shaming and bullying are real…
And they’ve never been more real for anyone than they are for Lenai. Having spent her whole life underweight, abnormally thin, and biracial, she’s grown accustomed to the cruel world's teasing and ridicule. That world includes her coworkers at Upstage Fashions, a local clothing store chain in Memphis where Lenai works as a sales associate.
An introvert and a loner…
Lenai has learned to keep to herself to avoid the conflict that results from the jealousy and envy radiating from those around her. That’s not just true for her work life, but her home life as well. She keeps quiet to avoid confrontation with her boyfriend, Kameer, who has become an abusive, gaslighting manipulator over the years because sometimes it’s just easier to not say anything and keep the peace than to stand up for herself.
Just what she needed…
When the store hires a new employee to help manage the plus sized section, Lenai finds an instant best friend in her new coworker, Rhea, a gorgeous plus sized beauty with ambitions to make it big in the fashion industry. Full of confidence with a no-nonsense attitude, Rhea encourages Lenai to become her best self, even if that means cutting out pieces of her life that she once believed were cornerstones.
Polar opposites in identical struggles…
Rhea is struggling with conflict of her own. After being teased for being a big girl her entire life, she’s no stranger to the cruelty of the world either, and being a member of the LGBTQ+ community doesn’t make that any easier. While her love for her long-time girlfriend, Jade, grows, her bond with Lenai strengths as well as they open up to each other about their individual struggles and decide to team up to keep each other encouraged and on track with their goals.
Putting it all on the line…
When a health scare threatens to bring all of Rhea’s ambitions to a screeching halt, she and Lenai agree to become accountability partners to make sure they are both able to see their dreams come true. Life, however, is lifing for Lenai as well, and when an extreme situation at home turns worse, Rhea holds her just as equally accountable for her personal life as her own health.
Enough is enough…
The two of them finally find themselves fed up with the mistreatment they’re enduring, and nothing will stop them from getting some get back when it’s all said and done. The glow up becomes too real for some people to handle, and when it’s all said and done, Rhea and Lenai are forced to show them all it really ain’t no fun when the rabbit’s got the gun.
