Who is your favorite author and why?
This question has more than one answer. My favorite Urban Fiction author, hands down, is Wahida Clark. Her Thugs series helped me to choose my genre. I love her characters. I love her stories. I love her story. I love the way her mind works. I've read nearly all her books and have physical copies of them all, including the books by her characters. (So, yes, I have the books written by her fictional characters, Tasha Macklin, Trae Macklin, Angel Santos, and Kaylin Santos!) I also own and have read the Payback series as well as the Golden Hustla series. I fan girl Wahida real bad. BIG bad.
My all-time favorite author is actually James Baldwin. I love the way James Baldwin wrote in his truth. He never shied away from hard topics, and he was intent upon accurately and realistically portraying Black culture and characters in his work. He also wasn't afraid to portray gay characters, even during a time in which homosexuality could cost you your life. He was a very wise and learned man with an authentic voice, a beautiful soul, and a helluva pen.
