Gems of My Crown ~ Wander vs. Wonder

Gems of My Crown ~ Wander vs. Wonder

Wander and Wonder seem to be giving some of the book girlies trouble, so let's take a look at these two words today and see if we can't clarify their usage and eliminate some of the confusion.

Wander

The word wander refers to a method or manner of moving around or traveling. Wandering is often thought of as being in an aimless, lost, or confused manner while the person is in no real rush. Wandering is thought to be done in a way that is explorative or is seeking or searching, though that which is being sought out may not be readily identifiable. Basically, if you're wandering, you're likely searching for something, but you may not know what you're actually searching for. Many love songs mention a person wandering through life without meaning until they found their true love.

Wonder

The term wonder is an action of the mind or psyche. It is the curiosity to know something or the questioning of or about something. People usually wonder what their friends or loved ones are doing when they're not in each other's presence or they wonder what they will have for dinner that day. It is an action that is purely of the mind, and therefore not visible, though one may be able to recognize another's curiosity as they wonder in their facial expression.

These two words are pronounced exactly the same, though their spellings differ slightly. However, they have their own distinct meanings and should not be used interchangeably.
